Autonomic neuropathy is a common and serious complication of diabetes, one that increases the risk of death. Fiber-Optic Sensor Could Help Prevent Diabetic Foot Ulcers

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - A new shear and plantar pressure sensor developed by Washington researchers could provide the basis for a "smart shoe" to help prevent people with diabetes from developing foot ulcers.

Dr. Wei-Chih Wang of the University of Washington in Seattle and colleagues report on their invention, which uses fiber-optic technology, in the May/June issue of the Journal of Rehabilitation Research & Development(more..)
